The MSEP program, offered in Peel Region, is a partnership between the Peel District School Board, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, Brampton Multicultural Community Centre and Citizenship and Immigration Canada. MSEP Brampton offers services through placing settlement workers in elementary, middle and high schools in the Brampton area.
Why locate settlement workers in schools?
Schools are one of the first services that newcomers connect with in the community. With the cooperation of the school, the MSEP worker systematically contacts all newcomer families to orient them to school and community resources and to refer them to specific services.
How does the MSEP worker help orient newcomers to the school?
Learning about the education system is part of the settlement process. The MSEP worker will explain essential school information and refer the newcomer to the appropriate school staff as necessary.
