Information and Awareness Services

BMC’s programs, services and commitment strive to facilitate newcomers’ integration into society and to enhance their capacity to participate more effectively in our community.

Under the Information and Awareness stream, funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, our settlement counselors serve and work with the newcomers’ community in Peel to facilitate their settlement and integration in Canada. The clients that come through our doors have various questions and concerns related to their settlement in Peel. Our settlement counsellors work with them by creating an action plan that helps them achieve their ultimate goal. Some of the most common needs our clients are assisted with are housing, education, employment, and health care.

In addition to the services provided, counselors also organize various information sessions that are of interest to the community. Some of these sessions include:

  • Accessing Settlement Services Online
  • Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship
  • Money Management
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Education System in Ontario
  • Canadian Workplace Culture
  • Stress Management
  • Crisis Counselling

These information sessions are delivered by the settlement counselors and/or by guest speakers invited from the community. By attending these sessions, the clients’ understanding of the Canadian Culture and systems is enhanced. It allows clients to make more informed decisions while also providing a smoother settlement and integration into Canadian society.
