Safe Voices Peel

Safe Voices Peel is a new intergenerational community safety initiative led by Building Multicultural Communities (BMC) to help prevent Islamophobia and hate-motivated crime across Peel Region.

The program brings together youth, adults with lived experience, community organizations, and Peel Regional Police to strengthen awareness, trust, reporting knowledge, and community-based prevention.

Through a Youth Ambassador model, young people ages 16–29 will receive mentorship and training in areas such as Islamophobia and hate-motivated crime prevention, bystander intervention, community safety, reporting processes, and trauma-informed facilitation. Youth Ambassadors will then help lead community dialogue, education, and awareness activities across Peel.

Adults with lived experience of Islamophobia will also help inform project activities and community discussions, ensuring that prevention strategies reflect real experiences and community needs. Peel Regional Police and community partners will contribute to education, referral pathways, reporting awareness, and trust-building in a non-enforcement setting.

Safe Voices Peel will focus on four key areas:

  • Youth Leadership
  • Community Trust
  • Anti-Hate Education
  • Community Dialogue

The initiative will also support youth-led public awareness activities, community resources, and evaluation to strengthen long-term approaches to preventing hate and improving community safety across Peel Region.

Safe Voices Peel is funded by the Government of Ontario through the Safer and Vital Communities (SVC) Grant.
